Retired Fire Chief Parks Passed Away
HARRODSBURG — Charles Monroe Parks Sr., 84, of Harrodsburg, husband of Christine Fisher Parks, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Harrodsburg Health Care Center.Born March 4, 1928, in Harrodsburg, Ky., he was a son of the lateJames Monroe
and Marie Williams Parks. He was a retired Mercer County and City of Harrodsburg Fire Department employee, an honorary lifetime member of the Mercer County Fire Department, a retired James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital maintenance employee, an employee of the former Wilson Funeral Home and Parks Funeral Home, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as chairman emeritus of the trustee board. Other survivors include a daughter, Paula Mays of Harrodsburg; three sons, Charles (Robin) Monroe Parks Jr. and James Franklin Parks, both of Danville, and Paul (Roxanne) Parks of Harrodsburg; a sister, Cora Allen of Harrodsburg; two brothers, William Parks Sr., of Harrodsburg and Lucian Parks of Georgia; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Loraine Mason, Georgia Steele, Mary Betty Buster, Sarah Jones and Louise Phillips; and three brothers, Thomas, Wallace and James Parks.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at First Baptist Church on Broadway Street by Bro. Virgil A. Hill. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.Pallbearers will be James Thurman, Chris Short, Leon VanDyke, Joe Monroe, Neil Robinson and Vincent Vanover. Honorary pallbearers will be former and current members of the Mercer County and Harrodsburg Fire departments, former and current staff members of James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital, and staff members of Sims Funeral Services.Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at First Baptist Church, and after 10 a.m. Friday until the time of service at the church.
